The OK Corral (Mapping Relational Inference)

Type: Individual / Group
Duration: 15–30 minutes
Materials: Masking tape, four placards

Purpose:
To make visible the shifting relational models through which “self” and “other” are inferred, and to loosen identification with any single position.

[Prepare the field]
│
│ Mark a large cross on the floor
│
│ Label quadrants:
│ • I’m OK : You’re OK
│ • I’m Not OK : You’re OK
│ • I’m OK : You’re Not OK
│ • I’m Not OK : You’re Not OK
▼
[Enter the space]
│
│ Stand anywhere
│
▼
[Explore positions]
│
│ Walk slowly through each quadrant
│
│ In each position, notice:
│ • Body posture
│ • Movement quality
│ • Typical thoughts or phrases
│
│ Do not analyse
▼
[Choose preferred position]
│
│ Go to the place you most like to be
│
▼
[Inquiry]
│
│ Ask silently:
│ • Why did I choose this place?
│ • What do I get from being here?
│ • What does it cost me?
│ • How much time do I spend here?
▼
[Choose avoided position]
│
│ Go to the place you least like to be

Group Expansion

  • Participants move fGreely within the corral
  • Interact briefly from chosen positions
  • Notice shifts in stance and tone
  • Discuss differences in preference
  • Allow persuasion playfully, not competitively

Practice Notes

  • No position is treated as correct or final.
  • The aim is mobility, not improvement.
  • Insight arises when positions are seen as contextual strategies, not identities.

Marginal Annotation

These positions are not who we are.
They are relational models invoked to manage uncertainty.

Context-Oriented Arts Note

  • The floor becomes a map of inference.
  • Movement replaces explanation.
  • Context reveals itself spatially rather than conceptually.

Entropy Footnote

Relational certainty is a way of reducing social entropy.
This algorithm restores flexibility by revealing how easily certainty reorganises itself.
